September is National Preparedness Month, which raises awareness about planning for unexpected disasters and emergencies. United Airlines and Sesame Workshop are teaming up to assist children and families in need. Here is how to help.
United Is Matching A Million Donated Miles
United is using its Miles on a Mission platform to feature Sesame Workshop during September to raise awareness for this international cause.
The nonprofit organization is behind the iconic Sesame Street program and provides media, formal education and social impact programs to vulnerable children in over 150 countries with its Welcome Sesame initiative. It has provided services for over 50 years and continues to help multiple generations.
United Airlines is offering a limited-time matching opportunity of up to one million donated airline miles in recognition of National Preparedness Month. This matching offer runs through the rest of 2023.
Donated miles will help Sesame Workshop aid providers issue educational assistance and nurturing care to children and caregivers in regions that include:
- East Africa
- Latin America
- Middle East
- South Asia
Many countries are impacted by conflicts and crises that impede families from receiving adequate necessities for a healthy and robust lifestyle. Over 400 million children are affected worldwide, along with 43 million who are forcibly displaced due to violent conflict and other circumstances.
MileagePlus Members can donate as little as 1,000 miles to nonprofit charities that help people worldwide and within the United States. For instance, the organization recently collected over 40 million miles and $250,000 in monetary donations to support those reeling from the Maui wildfires.
Other causes that partner with Miles on a Mission include:
- American Red Cross
- Fisher House/Operation Hero Miles
- Make-a-Wish America
- Special Olympics
Since 2019, United MileagePlus members have donated over 466 million miles to participating organizations and campaigns.
More About The United And Sesame Workshop Partnership
These two organizations started the partnership in March 2023, with Oscar the Grouch serving as the Chief Trash Officer. So far, Oscar has appeared in more than 30 original content pieces, with more on the docket.
In addition, United Airlines is offering children’s amenity kits. These kits feature iconic Sesame Workshop characters such as Oscar and Elmo in games and stories.
The United and Sesame Workshop partnership is an excellent opportunity to help those in need across the world living in less fortunate circumstances. Contributing to the airline miles match also helps your donation go further as organizations strive to provide more aid.
