Some exciting new options are coming later this year for travelers who want to fly across the Pacific. United Airlines has announced the addition of several new routes to Asian destinations, including the Philippines. Additionally, United will be flying to 15 international locations in the Asia-Pacific region, which is more than the other U.S. airlines—combined.
United Adding More Routes Beginning In October 2023
United Airlines expects these new routes to begin as soon as October 2023. Routes include direct flights to Manila, the capital of the Philippines, as well as non-stop routes to Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Taipei. Here are what routes you can expect to find this fall.
San Francisco to Manila, Philippines
This non-stop route will begin on October 29, 2023 (subject to government approval). United will be the first and only airline offering this service from the continental United States. The carrier will continue its existing service between Guam and Palau to Manila. This flight will operate daily on a Boeing 777-300ER, United’s largest aircraft.
Los Angeles to Hong Kong
United is currently the only U.S. airline that flies directly to Hong Kong from the United States. Beginning October 28, 2023, United will offer non-stop daily flights to Hong Kong from Los Angeles. However, this service, which will operate on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, is also subject to government approval. Travelers can choose between three daily flights from Los Angeles or San Francisco to Hong Kong if approved.
Los Angeles to Tokyo/Narita
Starting October 28, 2023, daily non-stop flights to Tokyo/Narita from Los Angeles will occur. These flights will operate on a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner. Note that there is already direct service from Los Angeles to Tokyo/Haneda. This new route brings United to Tokyo’s two international airports.
More Flights To Taipei
Also, subject to government approval, United plans to add more flights to Taipei starting October 29, 2023. United currently flies daily and non-stop to Taipei from San Francisco, the only U.S. airline to do so. This second daily flight will operate on a Boeing 777-200ER plane.
Expanding Reach In Australia And New Zealand
Winter 2023 will give travelers the most options with 66 weekly flights to Australia and New Zealand (subject to government approval). Travelers can expect the following:
- Second nonstop service from San Francisco to Christchurch, New Zealand, the only airline to offer direct flights
- Addition of four weekly flights from Los Angeles to Auckland
- New route from Los Angeles to Brisbane
- Daily flight between Brisbane and Melbourne and San Francisco
- Twice daily flights between San Francisco and Sydney
United is the largest U.S. carrier to fly directly to some of the above destinations.
Summary
United’s expansion across the Pacific is great news for travelers from the United States as it provides more options for adventure. Manila is a destination that is ready for exploration, with beautiful white-sand beaches, diverse history and architecture, various markets and shopping opportunities, plus plenty of dining options to engage with.
