China Eastern Airlines is aiming to transport about 360,000 passengers in 2019, sources from the airline said.

The airline introduced a flight destination between Shanghai and Yangon, which is a ninth flight for the airline in Myanmar, on June 19.

It will fly three times a week from Shanghai to Yangon in every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and from Yangon to Shanghai in every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The new direct service will take only 4 hours and 50 minutes connecting the largest city in China and Myanmar’s commercial capital, Yangon.

It is a ninth flight for the airline in Myanmar and it became the airline which runs most of the flights between Myanmar and China.

The airline is running Kunming-Mandalay, Kunming-Yangon, Kunming-Nanning-Yangon, Beijing-Kunming-Nay Pyi Taw, Shanghai-Mandalay, Hohhot-Kunming-Yangon, Wuhan-Yangon and Wuhan-Mandalay flights.

“The new flight will facilitate for travellers who want to go abroad from Shanghai. The airline is aiming to transport around 360,000 passengers in 2019,” said an official from the airline.

More than 2.3 million passengers entered Yangon International Airport in the first four months of this year and it is increased by 4.2 per cent compared with last year’s arrival of 2.22 million passengers, according to Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited (YACL) which is running the airport.

The number of tourist arrivals this year is increased by 7.9 per cent from January to April compared with last year’s arrival and the number of local travellers in this year is decreased by 3.1 per cent compared with last year’s number, announced the YACL.
