HYDERABAD: Some passengers at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport spent anxious moments after servers of IndiGo Airlines were reportedly down for an hour due to a glitch on Saturday.
The crash of the airlines’ reservation portal has led to 7-8 hours of mayhem, leaving passengers frustrated and flights delayed.
On one hand, a constant beeline of international students flying for their respective destinations for the Fall semester could be seen outside the airport, while on the other, inside the airport, a server crash triggered chaos.
Several passengers took to social media to voice their angst against delays. They alleged that their boarding passes were not being issued, while for others the boarding gates kept changing. Some passengers waited for about three hours at the airport. It is learnt that the server crash disrupted IndiGo flights at airports across the country.
Monika, a passenger, tweeted: “#Indigo flights at #Hyderabad are suffering major delay and mis-management due to server outage”.
Another passenger, Amrit Raj tweeted, “Indigo is a disaster today. My flight from Hyderabad is taking off 90 minutes late because systems are down and everything was done manually…. Madness”.
Another user tweeted about how after boarding the flight, they were made to wait leading to suffocation. “Please help. 6E7228 from HYD to RJA is delayed. AC not working. We are suffocating. There are small children on board. Staff is not telling us clearly what is the problem,” tweeted Harish Dunakhe at 2pm.
Though Indigo did not release any official statement, they responded to Dunakhe on twitter. “Sir, we understand that this must be frustrating. However, due to a system breakdown, our flights are impacted. Our team is on it and will get this sorted asap. Please reach out to our ground team for real-time assistance,” Indigo said in a tweet. Multiple attempts for a statement from Indigo met with no response.
Meanwhile, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited released an advisory to citizens not to crowd at the meet and greet areas. They stated that owing to heavy student traffic, each of whom came with 50-60 visitors, there was heavy rush at the entrance, access roads and ramps leading to traffic hurdles. They urged the citizens to self regulate the number of visitors and the vehicles, as the airport was also placed on red alert owing to Independence Day.
