People who complain about Avelo Airlines fares being too high might want to take a look at a flash sale.

Avelo Airlines announced a 50% off sale for all flights in September. Avelo serves 47 destinations spanning 25 states and Puerto Rico.

The 50% off sale is available on travel between September 1 and September 30 and must be booked by August 8. Customers can make reservations by applying the promotion code “Sept50 at AveloAir.com.

The discount means a round-trip from Wilmington to Charleston can costs $58. Add in a checked bag and the fare rises to about $150. The same ticket on Greyhound would run $120, or about $200 on Amtrak.

The post-Labor Day period is slow for airlines and ends with the Thanksgiving rush.

As noted above, baggage, early boarding and seat assignments are extra. However, flights can be changed or canceled online on short notice at no extra charge.

Flights to the some destinations end later this fall but are included in this fare promotion. The one exception is Savannah, where the Avelo schedule indicates service will end after Labor Day. The flight schedule does show that service to Myrtle Beach will continue into February, with three weekly flights in the early fall, up from two.

On the 10th of this month, another announcement is scheduled regarding Wilmington service.

Based on the number of parked cars and terminal activity at Wilmington Airport (ILG), a lot of people are flying out of the Delaware airport, although expect some changes.

You will also hear more talk about a new terminal, something we have mentioned in the past. Of course, any major project would be years away.

If passenger traffic holds up, the Delaware River and Bay Authority, the operator of the airport, can make some tweaks to the terminal. While conditions are tight in the boarding area, flights are scheduled to minimize crowding.
